Hotel Litwor was opened in1999 as the first four star hotel in Zakopane. It combines elegance, modernity and luxury. The hotel has been visited by numerous eminent politicians and cultural and sporting celebrities. The hotel is located in the heart of Zakopane at the famous Krupówki high street next to a park which ensures comfortable stay.

In 2008 the hotel was modernised and refurbished and received a boutique face. The Litwor has been officially awarded five stars as the first five star hotel in Zakopane. If you wander what the word ‘Litwor stands for it is a local word the Latin archangelos which stands for archangel and is connected with the unusual medicinal properties of the plant which were to be revealed by the Archangel Raphael. In botanical literature it is referred to as arcydzięgiel litwor (angelica archangelica in Latin). It is a two years’ plant that can be encountered in the Tatry and Sudety Mountains and is strictly protected. Many names in the Tatras have taken after Litwor e.g. Litworowy Staw or Litworowa Dolina. It is a priceless plant for herbalists. But it is not only that – for centuries litwor has been used to produce the queen of liquers – litworówka. Either the root or leaves are immersed in spirit for several days and later diluted with boiled water and sweetened with honey. The Litwor has been known, appreciated and used for centuries. There have been superstitions connected with it, for example it was believed that not only does it give health and strength, but helps virility. It has been recommended to carry its root in the left pocket of your trousers and drink the liquer before a romantic encounter. Monks used to call it the ‘herb of the Holy Ghost’ and believed it guaranteed longevity. You must have a taste of that mysterious drink in the Litwor hotel.
